MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Belarus set its sights on outer space back in the early 2000s, when a task was set to have its own satellite, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Kazakhstan Pavel Utyupin told reporters, BelTA has learned.
“If we rewind the clock a bit, we will see how farsighted our president was. Back in the early 2000s, we were already setting our sights on outer space, when the task was set to have our own satellite. Today we have several satellites in low-Earth orbit: the Earth remote sensing satellite, the academic satellite of Belarusian State University, and the communications and broadcasting satellite,” said Pavel Utyupin.
According to him, Belarus is already a space nation: “This is no small feat. I am sure that this is a significant achievement for any country.”
