Ambassador: Belarus, China are moving along the same path in preserving historical memory

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) - Belarus and China are moving along the same path in preserving historical memory, Belarus’ Ambassador to China Aleksandr Chervyakov said in an interview with Andrei Krivosheyev, Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Journalists, BelTA has learned.

As BelTA reported earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping invited Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to attend the parade in Beijing on 3 September to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the world anti-fascist war and the War of Resistance of the Chinese people against Japanese invaders.

The Belarusian ambassador was asked how close the positions of the two countries were in preventing new manifestations of Nazism, racism, ethnic segregation, and colonialism.

“We are moving along the same road here. We clearly understand what the actions of 80 years ago led to,” the ambassador said. “This is an important date for both us and China. It is extremely important that our President Aleksandr Lukashenko will participate in this event."

He emphasized that both China and Belarus suffered millions of casualties due to Nazi atrocities. “We honor this as sacred memory, a debt to the generations who defended our independence. Both our nations deeply understand this; this is sacred for us. We pass this reverence through generations so our youth remembers and never allows a repeat of the horrors that occurred 80 years ago,” Aleksandr Chervyakov said.
