About 80 reporters covering refugee crisis on Belarusian side of border, no one on Polish side

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – About 80 journalists from 30 countries are covering the refugee crisis on the Belarusian side of the border, while there are no reporters on the Polish side, Olga Shpilevskaya, Director of the Belarusian office of the Mir TV channel, said on the air of Alfa Radio, BelTA informs citing sb.by.

“Now only a stupid person does not understand what is happening at the border and does not see these double, triple, quadruple standards ... About 80 journalists from 30 countries are working on the Belarusian side of the border, at the same time there is not a single reporter on the Polish side. For example, in which territory is CNN journalist Matthew Chance working? In ours,” Olga Shpilevskaya emphasized.

She shared her observations on how Western journalists are covering the refugee crisis. “They show the way things really are until an editorial policy intervenes ... We see how ‘free' they are, how journalists cannot tell what they are witnessing as they stumble at the editorial policy and are forced to turn the blind eye to it, shut up ears and say what they are asked to say. This is a good lesson for our journalists who work with their foreign counterparts side by side. I believe that we are doing a great job, because we have taken the lead in the information agenda,” Olga Shpilevskaya said.
