MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – About 350 new sites relating to the genocide of the Belarusian people have been found, BelTA learned from Prosecutor General of Belarus Andrei Shved.
In his words, they are getting new information virtually every day.
The official said: “We are now starting working hard in archives of the Russian Federation. A group of prosecution service officers will leave virtually next week in order to start selecting the corresponding documents. We are talking about millions of sheets with information about the crimes fascists and their accomplices committed here, in Belarus' territory during the Great Patriotic War. Work in the Chenki forest was finished before winter. This site had not been mentioned in any documents before. A huge amount of work has to be done not only at this site of mass murders. On the whole, there are about 350 new sites already that have to be examined starting next year when the weather permits. We assume that civilians and Red Army military personnel were killed there. It is primarily information submitted by eyewitnesses.”
The prosecutor general noted that the assertion that every third resident of Belarus died during the war can be officially confirmed now. “We are approaching this sad and tragic figure now. At least 100,000 people were killed in the Chenki forest alone. This is why unfortunately we cannot say that the fascists killed 2.5-2.6 million people. We are only starting to understand and approach the real scale of the demise of our people at the hands of the fascists and their accomplices here during the war,” he added.
