5G cell tower deployed in China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) – A 5G cellular communication technology test area has been set up in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone. The ceremony to hand over the equipment and inaugurate the test zone took place on 30 September, BelTA learned from the industrial park's website.

Beltelecom First Deputy Director General Gennady Melnikov noted that it is possible to deploy two test zones in Belarus as from 30 September – one in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone and another one in the town of Kopyl. 5G technology can be used in such areas as fixed wireless access, mobile broadband Internet access, closed-circuit television (CCTV), driverless vehicles, and other ones.

The industrial park pays close attention to the development of the 5G cellular communication technology. An agreement on cooperation with the Belarusian Communications and Informatization Ministry was signed in February 2020. The document promotes the development of 5G technologies in the industrial park and the overall cooperation in the area of telecommunications and postal service.

The China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone is a special economic zone with a special legal regime. It is located 25km away from Minsk. Companies from 14 countries are registered in the park. The park's priority development areas include mechanical engineering, electronics and telecommunications, biotechnologies, pharmaceutics, new materials, logistics, digital commerce, big data storage and processing.
