MOSCOW, 9 February (BelTA) – Everyone should watch Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko's interview to Russian journalist Vladimir Soloviev, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told a press briefing in Moscow on 9 February, BelTA has learned.
“I want to ask you a counter question: did you watch this interview? All of it? I watched it all, and I strongly advise everyone to do so. I really enjoyed it,” said Maria Zakharova responding to the Armenian reporter's request to comment on the statement made during the interview that Armenia would inevitably join the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
“There was no such passage in the interview. He [Aleksandr Lukashenko] did not speak about the Union State. He spoke about possible integration processes and unions in the security sector, economy and so on and so forth. It is the wording of his vision - the one of the Belarusian president, the policy - on this situation, on the development of integration processes,” said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Maria Zakharova noted that there can be no answer to the journalist's question. “If we talk outside the context of this wording, I mean simply about the Union State, it is not a closed formation. It provides for the possibility of other states to join it,” the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“Once again, I draw attention to the fact that in that interview a lot was said about the current state of integration processes. The Belarusian president spoke about his vision, based on the geopolitical situation, on the development of world processes, on how the new space of these integration associations will, should and can be built,” Maria Zakharova added.
