MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – Vladimir Zelensky's statements about the possibility of developing nuclear weapons in Ukraine are not more than wishful thinking, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he gave an interview to journalist Olga Skabeyeva of the Rossiya TV channel on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia on 23 October, BelTA has learned.
"I am not buying it. No one will allow him to do it, neither Russia, nor the West. In fact, (this is no longer just my opinion, this is an assumption based on evidence) those who are afraid of a nuclear conflict the most are the Anglo-Saxons, the West. They do not want this conflict. Americans still believe that they will sit it out overseas. But it will be difficult for them to fight without Europe, including with nuclear weapons. Therefore, they need to get Europe involved. Europe is not just balking - they absolutely do not want nuclear weapons to be used, and Americans are afraid of this, too. Therefore, they will not allow Volodya Zelensky to do this. So this will remain his wishful thinking," the president said.
At the same time, he noted that such statements should not be brushed off. "There is another option in addition to developing nuclear weapons. He has many friends in the Middle East and other countries. So they might provide him with some terrible things that he is ready to use against Russia today," the Belarusian leader warned.
Speaking about Vladimir Zelensky, Aleksandr Lukashenko agreed with the statement that he is an "expired president". "Now he is on the back foot. He kept pointing fingers at me in 2020... Now is his turn to prove to people and the international community that he is not an expired president," the Belarusian head of state noted. Summing up, Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed confidence that Zelensky is not as tough as he may sometimes appear. He threatens to develop a nuclear bomb, strike at the Kremlin. “Listen, he is not that brave. In order to press the red button, you need to have certain courage. Secondly, you need to think about the day after. So you press it, what next? Will Russia collapse after you drop a "dirty bomb" on it, even on Moscow? No, Russia will not be gone, but it will strike back so hard that Ukraine will disappear," the president noted.
Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that Zelensky "loves a good life and has a place to live." "He is afraid of losing it all," he said.
