MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – As he visited Belarus, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam presented a portrait of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to the Belarusian leader. The portrait is made of gems. The gift exchange ceremony was aired by the TV channel Belarus One for the first time, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian head of state presented an exclusive box of chocolate and a range of Belarusian foods to the Vietnamese politician. “You’ve talked about chocolate. These are samples of our products,” Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked.

It is worth noting that the head of state often presents sets of Belarusian foods to foreign leaders. Among other things they represent an opportunity to appreciate their quality and taste at the top level. One can say these are delicacies with future cooperation in mind.
BelTA reported earlier that Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko held negotiations with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam in Minsk on 12 May. The latter was on an official visit to Belarus.
Vietnam is described as a new Asian economic tiger. The country develops confidently, demonstrating steadily high GDP growth rates. The population exceeds 100 million people. This is why Vietnam represents a very large market for Belarusian industrial goods, foods, and an opportunity to reach other countries in the region.
Aleksandr Lukashenko referred to To Lam as his good friend. He remarked that the parties had had a sincere and substantial exchange of opinions about a number of topical matters and had discussed prospects of future work in detail. The Belarus president accepted an invitation to visit Vietnam with gratitude. He assured that the leaders of the two countries would meet on the Vietnamese soil in the near future.
A joint statement on establishing a strategic partnership between Belarus and Vietnam was the key document Aleksandr Lukashenko and To Lam have signed as a result of the talks. It is not just a turn of phrase: Vietnam’s foreign policy doctrine identifies it as a special, advanced level of relations. In addition to that Belarusian and Vietnamese government agencies signed a package of documents on training military servicemen and specialists, on digital transformation and digital economy, on science, technology, innovations, pharmaceutics, mass media, and culture.
