MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has appointed Nikolai Rogashchuk Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to Georgia, BelTA has learned.
Previously, Nikolai Rogashchuk held the post of the deputy head of the Belarus President Property Management Directorate.
"Our relations [with Georgia] have improved, and I am very happy about this. The Georgian people have a high regard for Belarus and its people. Even the attitude to the country's leadership is more or less positive. Yes, there were attempts to portray us as adversaries, rivals, or even enemies, but we have never been opponents of the Georgian people. We support peace among Ossetians, Abkhazians, and Georgians. How they choose to resolve their issues is their own business," the president emphasized. "We do not interfere. Our position is to act in the best interests of the people."
"Naturally, there comes a time when ambassadors need to be replaced. At this new stage, it was decided that a new and highly active individual was needed. This is why the decision was made to appoint you as an ambassador to Georgia," Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
