Military Academy cadet from Ukraine approaches Lukashenko with unusual request

MINSK, 3 July (BelTA) – During a solemn ceremony held in the Mound of Glory memorial complex on 3 July on the occasion of Independence Day Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko talked to veterans, active military personnel, and other participants of the event, BelTA has learned.
When the president was walking by a squad of Military Academy cadets, a third-year cadet of the Combined Arms Department Rostislav Dolgov suddenly addressed him.

He said: “Comrade President! I’ve been trying to reach you for 11 long years. Since 2014 when we came here from Ukraine.”

“Did you come from Ukraine? But we will not allow you to fight. You will have to defend Belarus now!” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated.

The young man said: “On behalf of myself and my family I’d like to thank you for giving us not only a home but also a new stage in our life.”

“Do your parents work?” Aleksandr Lukashenko wondered.

“Affirmative! My father is your very big fan,” the cadet responded.

“Do you have other kids in your family?” the president wondered.

“We do. Me, my brother, and my sister. The brother was born in Belarus,” Rostislav Dolgov shared the details.

The head of state and the cadet posed for a memorable photo. Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed: “We are always open to Ukrainians. You are our kind of people. And don’t listen to anyone, who says that we are at war or are going to fight. Those are our people!”
