MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – During an interview with the Russian reporter Pavel Zarubin on the sidelines of the latest BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko was asked about prospects of the end of the conflict in Ukraine, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “It is no longer up to the collective West but up to Vladimir Zelensky himself. Kind of a small turn. As I met with representatives of the West the other day, I understood that they want peace but they cannot put pressure on Zelensky. Because they had promised that there would be no pressure, that there would be all kinds of support.”

“Doesn’t he take pity on his nation at all?” the reporter asked for a clarification.

“He couldn’t care less. Judging from his behavior. Although when I think about it, I knew him well before the conflict. He is not stupid. But apparently ambitions got hold of him. But there is no place for ambitions. This is why he truly doesn’t care,” the president remarked.

He stated that the situation changes every day. “And I am concerned that Russia may tell everyone to go to hell and point out that the situation on the ground has changed. I mean they failed to start negotiations back in the day. And today the situation has changed. It has seriously changed in favor of Russia,” the president said. “It seems to me that, as Russian military say, they will liberate Kursk Oblast by the end of December. Very many Ukrainians died there. And certainly it is not easy on Russians. We kill each other for no reason. But there are very serious shifts at the main frontline.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that Putin’s strategy is to calmly move forward step by step and the strategy has produced results. The frontline in the Donbass area is shifting to the west. “This is why Zelensky came up with slogans that he calls a victory plan. Because the situation at the frontline is serious,” the Belarusian leader concluded.
