Lukashenko: You need to see the scale of shortcomings

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – It is necessary to approach audits of agricultural enterprises in an objective, honest, and fair manner. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement during a conference call held on 18 July to discuss matters concerning the harvesting campaign, BelTA has learned. The president heard out a report from Chairman of the State Control Committee Vasily Gerasimov.

“Malfunctions vary. I’ve already given you an example. Some gearwheel may fail to be delivered on time… Is the harvester ready? It is not ready but it is a minor matter. During audits you have to see the volume, the scale of shortcomings,” the president told the chairman of the State Control Committee.

According to the head of state, it is necessary to approach audits as carefully as possible. Everything should be honest, objective, and fair. Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed Vasily Gerasimov to tell personnel of the State Control Committee to follow these principles in the course of audits.

In his report Vasily Gerasimov drew attention to a number of problems and shortcomings in agribusiness. Among other things the report mentioned the unpreparedness of vehicles, machines, and equipment, the improper storage of grain, problems with fodder harvesting, and the lack of machine operators in individual agricultural enterprises. For instance, grain harvesters may stand idle due to the shortage of personnel.

Another problem is the lack of unified approaches to organizing the work of mobile vehicle teams in a number of regions. Proper measures sometimes fail to be implemented for the sake of preventing the loss of grain in individual districts.

“Harvesters lose grain in excess of standard figures. Grain is stored outdoors without cover. Grain is transported without cover. There are also other problems,” Vasily Gerasimov explained.

The State Control Committee also found a number of grain cleaning and drying facilities that were not ready for work. According to Vasily Gerasimov, it is also necessary to take into account the prerequisites that make the theft of grain and seeds possible. “In a number of agricultural enterprises the grain coming from the field is weighed on unaudited weights, which cannot guarantee proper record keeping,” the head of the State Control Committee cited an example.

There are also certain problems with fodder harvesting. Not all the agricultural enterprises have applied additional fertilizers to grasses. A number of agricultural enterprises have violated technical regulations for fodder harvesting. There are some complaints about the work schedule for the harvesting cereals, leguminous crops, and flax in 2025. The schedule has been approved by the agriculture and food minister.
