MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – Supporters of peaceful and balanced development of Belarus must be united, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the 6th Belarusian People's Congress on 12 February, BelTA informs.
According to the head of state, he would like to comment on some topics as an ordinary citizen of Belarus, not as president. But first of all, he asked those present at the congress to say what they will do if rivals and opponents start to give advice. “Someone said: we will do the opposite. An axiom. We have not invented it, this is from life itself,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. He asked people to carefully analyze all proposals of opponents, to do it without emotions, and to realize consequences. “Let's think about it, let's doubt it, let's do the opposite in some areas,” he said.
“And one more thing: what do smart people do in critical situations when they do not see a way out? They join efforts and follow their leader. It has always been like that: people unite around a certain personality who is determined or who they want to determine and follow their leader,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said and reiterated that he commented on the matter as an ordinary man.
He suggested analyzing the proposals of opponents of the current government: “Some things are imposed from outside, some people recommend from inside – some are paid for it, others just get lost (people are different). They recommend to distribute powers, individual freedom, democracy (as they understand it), liberalism of opinions, pluralism, etc. It sounds great. And we are not against. We are not against democracy, and our congress is democracy. But we do not want that democracy which was propagated by the most democratic state where a poor woman serving in the army of this state was shot to death. What kind of democracy is there?”
According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, he is not against the distribution of powers between government bodies, and it will be done for sure. “But we must always think, we should not be driven by emotions, especially when we get advice from other people who see us as strong rivals. They give us advice to destroy us. We should not repeat someone else's mistakes, our close people have bitter experience, and we must use it,” he stressed. “We must be united. There is not one leader in the country. We have true leaders at the local level.”
“We must clench our teeth and brace up to survive this difficult period,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
According to the president, if Belarusians are divided in their own home, the state will be doomed. This is inadmissible. “We need to clench our teeth, brace up and survive this difficult period of uncertainty,” the head of state said.
The head of state emphasized that the world has become so uncertain that we cannot make clear forecasts for the future, prepare concrete plans and programs. “We have determined this course on the basis of our experience. Today we have voted and adopted it. Are you sure that another pandemic will not emerge tomorrow and we will not have to revise this course? I am not sure. Of course, we will be committed to this course. But there can be different moments in life, and we must be prepared for it. In these minutes of uncertainty of our future we must be more careful than ever and we must be united. It is not a good time to break anything. Therefore, we will be very careful and attentive in the process of drafting the new Constitution,” the Belarusian leader said.
