MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) - Belarusians are united as never before and are capable of addressing any challenge of the current age, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the ceremony where servicemen took the oath of allegiance to the Belarusian people and the president of Belarus on 25 March, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that during the years of sovereignty and independence Belarus had been tested for strength many times, and each of the servicemen had repeatedly proved their patriotism, loyalty to the oath and the Fatherland.
“Today we are united as never before, and we will certainly cope with all the challenges of the current age, as our heroes-veterans, who brought the Great Victory to the people, did 80 years ago. Just as we and those who have retired did, here, at the walls of the Palace of Independence, in the year 2020. After a very short time, today we understand what would have happened to us if we and you had not withstood then,” the Belarusian leader said.
“Our duty - the duty of people in uniform - to strengthen the defense of the country and protect our native land from any encroachments. Time has chosen us, and we are responsible for this time. Before our contemporaries, and most importantly before our descendants. Long live the hard-working, peaceful Belarusian people and their glorious defenders of the Fatherland!” the president said.
