Lukashenko warns of unprecedented threats to national security

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – Belarus has never faced such an unprecedented level of threats and challenges to national security in its contemporary history, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a ceremony to honor graduates of military schools and high-ranking officers, BelTA has learned.

“Tomorrow you will join the troops and public administration bodies. This is a time when we need to keep our eyes open and gunpowder dry, because our republic has never faced such an unprecedented level of threats and challenges to national security in its contemporary history,” the Belarusian leader said. He stressed that the officers will have to embark on the work right away, in a responsible and professional way. “I have no doubts that you will be able to ensure the peaceful life of our citizens and stability in society. Our people are looking at us, the military, with great hope, more than ever before,” the head of state said.

The president emphasized that the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations enjoy great support and trust of the people: “People believe that we, officers, will do everything possible and even impossible to protect the Fatherland. And we just cannot let them down. I want you to be worthy of this trust. Once again I congratulate you on the successful completion of your studies as well as on the assignment of general ranks. I wish you all good health, peace, good, prosperity and success in this sacred cause of serving the Fatherland. We are military people, we are trained for war. Yet, we must do everything so that a war does not happen.”
