MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – Experiments with schoolbooks must be stopped, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he addressed the National Pedagogical Conference on 24 August, BelTA has learned.
At the pedagogical forum the head of state commented on the contents. “The ministry reported that programs and schoolbooks were updated. We have been doing this on an annoyingly regular basis in the history of our independence,” he said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko certain Soviet schoolbooks were reissued more than 20 times, received state awards, were written in good and vivid language taking into account the age of students. They were logical and entertaining and made a contribution to the development of students.
“What do we have today? Modern schoolbooks are criticized a lot, including by teachers. It should not be like that. Experiments with schoolbooks must be stopped. I want you, teachers, to improve what we have and then provide reports. I hope that this is the last conversation about schoolbooks at my level,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
The president remarked that gadgets and digital innovations will never replace schoolbooks and teacher in education. “Schoolbooks and teachers are the priority,” the president said. He criticized the quality of preparation of educational materials in terms of their appearance and essence. “We will find enough money for that. Please issue good schoolbooks!” he said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that schoolbooks will remain the main instruments for students and teachers in spite of the robust development of electronic educational resources.
