MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Some people in Belarus are trying to take advantage of the sanctions to line their pockets, but the government will thwart these attempts, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the national seminar-conference to discuss new methods and forms of public communication at the grassroots level, BelTA has learned.
“The current situation has one peculiarity. I carefully analyze the processes that are taking place in our society. There are certain difficulties caused by the sanctions: logistics is disrupted, there are also other challenges. Many Belarusians want to take advantage of this state of things or have already used the situation to their advantage. It can be okay in the event if they lend a shoulder to the state, occupy a niche that has become vacant, integrate into new logistics by supplying spare parts, medicines or other things to someone. At the same time, I want everyone to understand (especially you, as you are the elite of our state, you have a big role in decision-making) that the government will not allow anyone to take advantage of the situation to cash in and line their pockets,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president warned that law enforcement agencies will continue to crack down on such people. “Bribery, tax evasion and other crimes will be nipped in the bud. If we deviate from our path, we will end up in the same situation as our brotherly Ukraine. Therefore, let's work and live peacefully together, use our veche to make decisions and listen to and hear our people, especially those who ensure our food security, produce everything that we can and cannot do,” the head of state said.
