Lukashenko wants scientific proposals to underpin Belarus' development program

MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – Scientists' proposals should become a foundation of the Belarusian five-year development program, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he visited the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on 11 September, BelTA has learned.

“My meeting with you during this period is primarily due to the fact that we are ahead of a very important event [All-Belarus People's Assembly], which will determine the fate of the country for the next five years. I want you not just get involved in the development of a new five-year program and development forecast of our state. I would like our scientists' proposals to become the basis of this program. I would like it to be real and feasible. This is the main reason why I am here, at the National Academy of Sciences, today,” the head of state said.

The president added that there have always been many differently-minded people among scientists, and he welcomed it. “I am absolutely convinced, and I have relevant facts, that the majority of our scientists are smart, talented, and capable people. They are able to assess the situation and draw the right conclusions. They are able to influence others. I am convinced that they are the majority there,” the Belarusian leader said.
