MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – Financing of athletes will depend on their performance, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he commissioned a world-class swimming pool in Minsk on 6 November, BelTA has learned.
“Get ready. Starting from next year, if you perform well, you will get the money. If you fail to show good results, don't even raise this issue,” the president warned.
“We will find money no matter how hard it might be. Our people do not spare money for athletes. But we need results. Give us results. This is an earnest conversation. We are waiting. And it is not about me - the people are expecting good results from you. If there is a result - you will have what you ask for,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
The president warned that if there are no results, many sports officials will lose their jobs: “Those who work in this field, from the sports minister to everyone else, will be gone, too.”
