MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – It is necessary to further develop the army taking into account the lessons learned from military operations in Ukraine. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave the relevant instruction as he appointed Pavel Muraveiko Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Defense Minister of the Republic of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Let’s focus on how we will develop the Armed Forces the way we’ve been doing it up till now. By studying everything going on around us.”
Continuing the line of thought, the head of state drew attention to events in Ukraine: “It is also a lesson for us. A serious lesson. We should see what a modern war is.”
“We have already drawn certain conclusions. We’ve understood what mines and barrier minefields mean. The things we wanted to destroy upon the bidding of the West back in the day. Thank god we’ve preserved it. We know what counterbattery fire is. And we understand particularly well that it is impossible to fight in modern conditions without unmanned aerial vehicles and without radioelectronic warfare systems, which have to effectively affect both unmanned aerial vehicles and other modern weapons. We’ve spoken about it more than once. You will have to work hard on it,” the Belarus president gave concrete examples.
