Lukashenko wants everyone to fight in information war

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko drew attention to information security as he met with State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “You are doing the right thing by raising the matter of information security. It is the most important one. A war is going on now primarily in the sphere of information security. Everyone should contribute to it starting with reporters and ending with the president. It is definitely a war. An information war is a very dangerous thing in the modern world. Starting with newspapers covering affairs of some local area and various privately-owned newspapers and ending with the Internet. Everyone must work hard.”

The head of state went on saying: “Sincerely speaking, the Belarus President Administration could do a little more in this regard. Particularly in serious areas. I absolutely agree with your proposal that the State Secretariat should be involved in it.”

In his words, this approach will allow creating a good foundation for actions in mass media. At the same time Aleksandr Lukashenko warned against using fake news as a tool amid the information war. “We should not go down this path. We don't need fake news. We have to show the real life. It will win in the end. Fake news can last a day or two. But then they are dispelled. This is why don't use fakes. Don't give false and incorrect information. Everything should be decent and neat so that we would not have to explain ourselves later on,” he stressed.
