Lukashenko wants clear plans for economic development

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – We need to formulate clear plans for economic development, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he made appointments to the economic team of the government on 3 March, BelTA has learned.

"The economy must operate according to clear plans in the next five-year period. You should not be afraid of this. Those who taught us that plans are unnecessary, like Japan, for example, create hundreds of plans for further development in various areas every year. But we decided not to do so. How can we live and work without planning? Even families plan their budgets, and we as a government should do the same," the president stated.

Speaking about trade, the head of state instructed to monitor the balance of its types: chain retailing, convenience stores, marketplaces, and so on.
"We must not forget: the main thing is to preserve convenience stores that appeared back in Soviet times. Under no circumstances should any retail chain store force them out of business: this might lead to some challenges," Aleksandr Lukashenko set the task. "Okay, today we easily cope with these retail chains. But if we cannot? They will control the country. Not to mention the consumers who will come to these stores."
