Lukashenko wants Belarus to be self-reliant in defense sector as much as possible

ORSHA, 29 May (BelTA) – Belarus' defense  sector should rely on its own defense products as much as possible. This principle is spelled out in the National Security Concept and the Military Doctrine that were recently adopted by the Belarusian People's Congress, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he spoke with the labor collective of Legmash Plant in Orsha on 29 May, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said that a number of documents are being developed in pursuance of the National Security Concept and the Military Doctrine. These documents  are designed to specify the ideas laid out in the two above-mentioned documents. Naturally, some of these documents are classified.

“The concept and the doctrine are laws, they are our guidelines. Specifics are also important. If we say that we will defend ourselves, the question arises: how? Therefore, we pay great attention to this matter, including the establishment of new production facilities,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

The president emphasized that in case of war, the country should be able to rely on its own defense capacities as much as possible; a lot is already being done in this regard. This pertains to small arms, communications equipment and a number of other items, including new defense products made by Legmash Plant in Orsha.

“This is what matters the most. Otherwise, neither the doctrine nor the concept will make any sense,” the head of state added.
