Lukashenko wants annual grain harvest at 11m tonnes in Belarus

MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – Belarus should harvest 11 million tonnes of grain annually, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he made appointments on 4 March and outlined the key tasks for the appropriate team in the government, which is supervised by Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko, BelTA learned.

“We should harvest 11 million tonnes of grain annually. It is a must,” the head of state said. “11 million tonnes of grain is something we should harvest every year. I mean cereals, legumes, rapeseed, corn and so on”.

Another task is to produce more than 9 million tonne of milk and more than 2 million tonnes of meat in 2025 and to ensure the shelf-life management and sale of these products.

Belarus’ food exports should reach $9 billion by the end of this year. “I do not ask for more,” the president said, specifying that Belarus has already reached this figure and needs to hold its position.

Apart from major tasks and prospects in agriculture, Aleksandr Lukashenko touched on the current situation, particularly the state of fields and winter crops. “We need to take a close look at the status of winter crops. Snow will melt today or tomorrow. I am not rushing you to start field works. Temperatures may still drop below zero,” the president said. “You figure out what needs to be done. There is already work in the fields. It should be done, especially in the south of the country.”

Addressing the new Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov, the president noted that he has a difficult and hard work ahead of him: “You understand that both healthcare and agriculture are the hardest sectors. work never ceases. Although there is enough work for the ministries and ministers, but nevertheless..."
