Lukashenko vows to ‘nip in the bud’ preconditions for events like those in Ukraine, Middle East

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – Preconditions for events like those in Ukraine or in the Middle East will be nipped in the bud in Belarus. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a solemn assembly held on 1 July in anticipation of Independence Day, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Many countries across the world have become independent thanks to that greatest Victory. Many nations have been granted an opportunity to choose their own way of development. I remind you: independence costs a lot, a great deal. And economy is not the point. We, Belarusians have paid the most terrible price for it. This is why in every new military conflict that happens on the planet these days we see a personal tragedy and hear the echo of the Great Patriotic War.”

In his words, Belarusians respond to events that force one to draw historical parallels stronger than anyone else.

“The repeat of the disaster like the one in Ukraine or, God forbid, in the Middle East is absolutely unacceptable for us. We will nip in the bud preconditions for the similar development of events if, God forbid, we see it in our land. I say it to those, who stand behind every scenario like that,” the president warned.
