MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko is on a visit to the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater on 19 February, BelTA has learned.
The head of state will be briefed on the state of affairs and development prospects of the theater. Aleksandr Lukashenko is also expected to talk to the cast.
The Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater opened on 14 September 1920. In 1944 the theater was named after Yanka Kupala, in 1955 it was granted the title of ‘academic', in 1993 it received the status of ‘national'.
In 2010-2013, the theater building was under renovations. It reopened on 29 March 2013, the ceremony was attended by the head of state.
The theater opens each season with Yanka Kupala's play Pavlinka. This production is the hallmark of Belarusian drama.
