MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Americans and the French may boast as much as they want but theirs is not a democracy but absolute totalitarianism. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement in an interview with the Interstate TV and Radio Company Mir, BelTA has learned.
During the interview Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that he regularly watches the Mir TV channel because he is interested in what is going on in the post-Soviet space. Apart from that, according to the president, Mir reporters objectively cover events in other countries and present facts without bias.
“I like it. By the way, we could use more of that today. The world could use more of that. And Americans, the French, and the rest may boast as much as they want. They are not simply propagandists. It is more than propaganda. It is not a democracy but absolute totalitarianism. But they portrayed themselves in a totally different light before us,” the head of state said.
Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned a situation concerning Marine Le Pen, the leader of the French party National Rally. She has been found guilty of abusing funds of the European Union. Aleksandr Lukashenko also mentioned a lawsuit targeting Evghenia Guțul, Governor of Moldova’s Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. She is accused of violations in the course of financing the opposition party Șor, which has been declared illegal by Moldovan authorities and liquidated. Many believe that both lawsuits are politically motivated.
“It is terrible in any country. It is terrible. There was no democracy over there. What little democracy they had was carefully hidden. They hid it while we kept admiring their democracy and wanted to replicate it. Russians and we have replicated it. They [Western partners] came to us with some economic proposals, investments. They set up enterprises. They privatized some. Not in Belarus. Mainly in Russia. And then as soon as they were given a go-ahead, all of them fled. Thank god that they have fled. They didn’t take anything with them after all. We were smart enough to keep everything that our people and their specialists have accumulated. It is the foundation of our import substitution and competitive ability,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
