President 24.05.2019 | 10:45

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Beautification work should be continued in Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he was informed about the progress in the clean-up and development of territories near the Minsk ring road on 24 May, BelTA informs.

“Perhaps, we will begin with major roads and move to the borders of our country. We need to beautify Belarus, we should not stop. This is our trademark. All people arriving in Belarus are amazed by the beauty of our country and its nature. However, it is not enough to enjoy nature. We should live in peace and accord with it. We should beautify our country and take care of its nature,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

Speaking about the development of the Minsk ring road, the president remarked that the work had not been active enough. “Probably, I do not see it somewhere, because I cannot visit all the places. So, today I would like to share my vision about how road and adjacent territories should look,” the head of state said.

Minsk mayor Anatoly Sivak told reporters that drivers are mostly concerned about the quality of crossovers at the Minsk ring road. Therefore, repairs will be continued.

Speaking about the beautification of Minsk, he remarked that the Minsk City Hall has an action plan which envisages the repairs of roads and pavements, planting of greenery, development and renovation of infrastructure. “The main objective of the city administration is to turn the city into a more comfortable place for life, improve its infrastructure, transport and housing. Of course, it is scheduled work for the city,” Anatoly Sivak explained.

At the same time, he noted that beautification work had been stepped up in Minsk in 2019. For example, about 2 million flowers were planted in the city in 2018, and it is planned to plant 8-9 million flowers this year. Besides, municipal services laid asphalt, renovated pavements and replaced old paving tiles.

“Sometimes we erect new facilities and forget about the maintenance of existing ones. We are changing our approaches now. Of course, it is very important to keep everything we have in ideal order,” the Minsk mayor stressed.

Anatoly Sivak said that it is impossible to put everything in ideal order within a year. Therefore, landscaping work will be continued in Minsk next year. “We are trying to engage the population in this work,” he said. For example, Minsk residents can participate in tree planting.

Speaking about the preparations of the capital city for the 2nd European Games, the chairman of the Minsk City Hall said that the material and technical infrastructure is almost ready. “Personnel training is very important right now. This pertains to volunteers, drivers. Training is in progress. Concerted efforts of various services, administrative centers, operational centers are needed,” he stressed.
