Lukashenko urges to find new growth points in Vitebsk Oblast

VITEBSK, 15 December (BelTA) - The problems in Vitebsk Oblast will not be solved without new growth points, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he introduced a new governor to the Vitebsk Oblast senior officials on 15 December, BelTA has learned.

“It is obvious that it is impossible to solve the problems without new points of growth. Vitebsk Oblast has its unique advantages, which are still underused. This means they should, but still do not produce the necessary financial return. These are rich water and forest resources, vast protected areas, significant mineral resources: clayey raw materials, dolomite, peat, sapropels. They, fortunately, need to be developed today and there is demand for them,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.

He drew attention to huge forest areas in Vitebsk Oblast, which makes it possible to develop the woodworking industry. This area is very profitable, said the president. The head of state recalled his instruction to ensure Vitebskdrev's profitable operation.

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the capacities of the petrochemical industry should give an impetus to the production of polymer and construction materials. The accumulated experience in the manufacture of footwear, carpets, flax and food processing, instrument and machine tool making, textile and clothing industry should be converted into real development and growth of production and sales.

“The task I set for the implementation of one major investment project in each region remains relevant. I think Aleksandr Mikhailovich will work on a project of his. Of course, it is necessary to complete the already launched projects. All of them must work to their full capacity and secure decent living conditions for people and profits for the state,” said the president.

The matter pertains, first of all, to the Orsha Meat Packing Plant and the Orsha Linen Mill, the Miory Metal-Rolling Plant and other enterprises. Aleksandr Lukashenko recalled his promise to visit Miory and have a detailed look at the operation of the new plant. He added that the multi-modal industrial and logistics complex in Bolbasovo should also reach its full capacity.
