MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Even in the conditions of sanctions, we should not discard the EU market. We should continue to work with relevant countries to promote Belarusian goods, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the meeting of the Council of Ministers held on 9 August to discuss the functioning of the country's economy under sanctions and measures to overcome them, BelTA has learned.
The rhetoric about “Belarus now working exclusively with friendly countries instead of unfriendly ones” is wrong, the president believes. "In no case should we leave the European Union. This is our closest neighbor. It accounted for half of our exports," Aleksandr Lukashenko said. “We need to work with them. Hot-headed politicians are cooling off. Business is business."
As an example, the head of state cited the high demand in the world for mineral fertilizers and oil products that Belarus manufactures. The president is confident that partners in the European Union are also interested in buying Belarusian goods. “Maybe we are not active enough in promoting our products to those markets, even in the current conditions. If they need our products, they also look for ways to purchase. In no case should we discard this market, even in the rhetoric. On the contrary, we need to go there and create new chains in order to trade," the Belarusian leader said.
