VOLOZHIN, 19 October (BelTA) – Minsk Oblast should improve its harvesting outcomes and be able to crop 3.5 million tonnes of grain, leguminous crops, maize and rapeseed in five years, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at the regional stage of the Dazhynki harvest festival in Volozhin on 19 October, BelTA has learned.
This year, Minsk Oblast has grown 2.5 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops, maize and rapeseed, which is a quarter of the country's harvest. The average grain yield (including maize) reached almost 44 centners per hectare. This is better than in neighboring European countries.
The best farms of the region - Gastellovskoye, Snov, Gritskevichi, Pyatigorye – had the yield of about 100 centners per hectare and higher. This is already the level of world leaders, the head of state noted. “As I have said, you know how to do everything,” the president emphasized.
The harvesting of potatoes, maize, and forage is nearing completion. Winter crops were sown in time. Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that winter barley yield is 45 centners per hectare, which is a very good result. “Increasing the area under this crop by 1.5 times was the right thing to do. You did a great job with maize. You plant more than anyone else in the country. Good forage immediately increases productivity of livestock farming. You promise that by the end of the year, each cow will give 7,000 kilograms of milk. A decent result,” the head of state remarked.
“But let's be honest: this is average performance. You can do better. In addition to the region's leading processing companies (the Dzerzhinsky agro-industrial complex, Smolevichi Broiler, Veles-Meat and others) there are still enough enterprises that need to take it up a notch, to put it mildly. The task for the region for the next year is to produce no less than 3 million tonnes, and over the next five years to produce 3.5 million tonnes of grain, legumes, maize and rapeseed. This is a realistic task for you,” the Belarusian leader is convinced.
He emphasized that agricultural technology and feed rations in the region that is home to Belaruskali and BNBC should be simply exemplary.
In Soviet times, Minsk Oblast was twice awarded the Order of Lenin for its agricultural performance. A total of 250 natives of Minsk Oblast became Heroes of Socialist Labor, every third of them for outstanding achievements in agriculture. “In our recent history, two Heroes of Belarus come from Minsk Oblast. I hope that the golden star will shine on the chests of the natives of our central region more than once,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
According to him, the growth can be derived from smart management, innovations, adherence to technology and exceptional production discipline.
