MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - Donald Trump can take an “out-of-the-box” step on the settlement in Ukraine, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko told the media on 26 January, BelTA has learned.
The head of state believes that the U.S. president is able to make some “out-of-the-box” decisions compared to other U.S. politicians. “We hope so,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
He believes that Donald Trump is a flamboyant and unpredictable person who can make an unexpected alogical decision. “We are waiting for him to make such an alogical decision regarding Ukraine. If we use logical and conventional criteria for this issue, the United States will never agree to meet the demands and expectations of the Russian people and the Russian president. It is not in their interests. But Trump is an unpredictable man. He can take some extraordinary measures and do what he promised: He brought peace and is declared 'messiah'. God wanted him to survive assassination attempt so that he could bring peace, among other things. Deep inside he is committed to it. He always holds firm. It is hard for his aides and others to influence him. So, he can do something out-of-the-box, not along the lines we think,” the Belarusian leader stressed.
In this regard, the president believes that achieving peace is possible. “But I still have some doubts. I am 50/50. I do not think the USA will care much about the interests of Russia and Belarus,” he said.
Speaking about Donald Trump, Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that the U.S. president understands what a family and children mean, unlike many other politicians in the United States who have no children.
The Belarusian president cited the opinion of a good friend of his who believes that Trump became a different, very religious man, and a lot changed. “If he is a man of faith, he should respect God's commandments. He was shot in the ear and survived [assassination attempt on Donald Trump during the election campaign]. God had mercy and saved him for something. It is clear for what purpose: to realize God's commandments,” Aleksandr Lukashenko added.
