
ORSHA DISTRICT, 21 April (BelTA) – Belarusian President is visiting the Orsha Forestry as part of his working trip to Vitebsk Oblast on 21 April, BelTA has learned.
The president is visiting the agro-town of Kopys, a prototype of “the village of the future” from the same-name program. Wood-processing unit No.2 of the Orsha Forestry is located in the agro-town.
The president will be briefed on providing the forestry sector with modern logging equipment and the wood processing industry with wood raw materials. One of the topics will be forest restoration efforts and work conducted to protect forests from wildfires.
For the head of state’s visit the company has showcased an exhibition of domestic logging equipment and tools.
Last year, Belarusian forestry enterprises harvested 19.8 million cubic meters of merchantable timber, which is 108% against the level of 2023. Timber harvesting will be based on the existing needs of the country’s enterprises. In Q1 2025 some 5 million cubic meters of timber was harvested.
Amkodor and MTZ (Mozyr Machine Building Plant) produce forestry machinery in Belarus. Thanks to the systematic work on renewal of the machine and tractor fleet, purchase of new modern forestry equipment of domestic production, mechanized harvesting made up a record 65% of the total harvesting last year.
In addition to mechanized harvesting, about 40% of timber is harvested by loggers using chainsaws and hand tools.
