MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will take part in the CIS Heads of State Council meeting in Moscow on 8 October, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in the Russian Federation on a working visit on 7 October and attended an informal meeting of the CIS leaders later on the same day.
The agenda of the summit is extensive. The leaders of the CIS member states are set to discuss issues related to security, high technology, and cooperation in trade, economy, culture and humanitarian affairs.
Aleksandr Lukashenko will deliver a report to expand on the CIS address to the peoples of the CIS and the world community in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. In fact, of all the former Soviet republics Belarus suffered the most during the Great Patriotic War.
The address is aimed at preserving the memory of the war, the feat of the Soviet people and their contribution to the Great Victory. The address calls to take joint steps to counter the glorification of the Nazis and their accomplices, to preserve memorials to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. After its adoption, this address will be forwarded to the UN and other international organizations.
The heads of state will exchange views on cooperation within the CIS and make a decision on the CIS chairmanship in 2025. Tajikistan is expected to take over from Russia, thus the next meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council will be held in Dushanbe in October next year.
The participants of the summit will also review the efforts of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly to strengthen integration, among other things.
The heads of state will sign decisions on declaring the CIS Capitals of Culture for the next three years, and adopt amendments to a number of documents on cooperation in legal matters and security.
