Lukashenko to meet with CIS premiers, go to Russia for talks with Putin

MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – On 28 May Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko will meet with the participants of the session of the CIS Heads of Government Council, after that he will go on a working trip to Russia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

A day before, Aleksandr Lukashenko and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev discussed current activities of the Commonwealth and ways to boost its efficiency. As Belarus presides in the CIS in 2021, it will strive to give the organization a new impetus and improve its international standing. This topic will also be in the spotlight at the upcoming meeting of Aleksandr Lukashenko with the heads of government of the CIS countries.

In the afternoon, Aleksandr Lukashenko is scheduled to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi. During his parliament speech on 26 May, the Belarusian head of state outlined the agenda of the Sochi talks - the focus will be on the economy, joint projects in various fields, as well as response to external pressure and sanctions.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin will discuss the further efforts of the two governments to promote integration on the platform of the Union State, will compare notes on the most pressing issues of the bilateral agenda, and will exchange views on international issues.
