MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – While announcing new members to the government team responsible for social matters, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave his take on how to deal with employees who violated the law, BelTA has learned.
“Some ministers literally say that their relatives, close friends, acquaintances are very talented and cannot be fired, although they are basically enemies of our state who are staying under the radar as part of their wait-and-see strategy. There are enough of them in the social field. More than anywhere else. This should not be the case,” the head of state noted.
“We have survived this period. We should be able to forgive. We should be able to. If it is possible. But if a person has violated the law, and has done it deliberately, how can we forgive? Indeed, how can we forgive public figures? People representing healthcare, education, media, culture, sports are all public figures... All of them are in the public eye. And if you broke the law, if you spoke out against the state, all people saw it. You are public figures,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
He recalled how opponents attacked and tried to tear apart Vladimir Karanik when he was healthcare minister: “This will not be forgotten. Everyone remembers. He told them in the face what he thought and the things they did not like.”
