Lukashenko to discuss situation at Belarus-Poland border

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will host a meeting to discuss the situation at the Belarus-Poland border on 16 November, the Pul Pervogo Telegram channel informs, BelTA has learned.

A reminder, the refugees have been stranded at the Belarusian-Polish border for nine days already. They spent the night right on the cold concrete at the entrance to the checkpoint, many of them did not manage to fall asleep. Polish security officials remain on duty behind the barbed wire. The amount of hardware increased overnight: four water cannons are already on standby in the narrow section of the entrance to the Polish checkpoint. They are facing a refugee camp with children and women.

Aleksandr Lukashenko and Germany's acting Chancellor Angela Merkel had a telephone conversation in the evening of 15 November. The conversation lasted about 50 minutes. The parties discussed a number of problems, primarily the situation with refugees on the Belarusian-Polish, Belarusian-Lithuanian and Belarusian-Latvian borders.

The ways and prospects for solving the migrant problem were discussed at length in order to prevent the escalation of the situation at the border. Another important aspect that the Belarusian president and Germany's acting chancellor talked over was the humanitarian support for refugees through the provision of humanitarian aid to them. Aleksandr Lukashenko and Angela Merkel agreed to keep in touch to resolve the situation.
