MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko will hold a conference call on 18 July to discuss harvesting, BelTA has learned.

Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov is to deliver a report on harvesting progress. Heads of regions will report on the situation on the ground via video link.

Taking part in the meeting will be senior officials and government members, many of whom are also the president’s authorized representatives in the regions and the city of Minsk. The participants will also include heads of a number of ministries, government agencies, large agricultural enterprises, key organizations of the agro-industrial complex.

According to the Agriculture and Food Ministry, this year the area under grain and leguminous crops to be used for corn amounts to 2.403 million hectares. To carry out harvesting and primary processing of grain and leguminous crops, agricultural organizations in the country have 7,000 grain harvesters. More than 8,300 vehicles are used to transport grain.

To fulfill crop production targets, the areas under sugar beets, potatoes and vegetables have been increased. These measures are expected to help prevent crop losses and delays in harvesting.
