Lukashenko to China’s premier: WWII is our common pain, our shared victory

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) - The Second World War is a common pain for Belarus and China, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang in Minsk on 22 August, BelTA has learned.

“The last time you visited Belarus was in 2015, when you were governor. Back then, Belarus celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This year, 2024, is also marked by a significant date for us. It marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. It is noteworthy that your compatriots - the Chinese - fought for peace and freedom on the Belarusian land in partisan units and the Vitebsk underground. We remember these heroes,” the head of state said.

He added that the USSR lost about 30 million people, while China lost more than 35 million in the fight against Japanese militarists. “Therefore, World War II is our common pain and a shared victory,” Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized.
