MIKASHEVICHI, 5 October (BelTA) – The Polesie area needs to be revived during the next five-year term. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during a solemn ceremony held as part of the Dazhynki 2024 harvest festival in Mikashevichi to honor agrarians, BelTA has learned.
“Yesterday [during the visit to OAO Parokhonskoye in Pinsk District] we agreed that we will revisit the program on reviving our Polesie area,” the president said. The words were met with applause.
The head of state clarified that he demands nothing supernatural but “it is necessary to continue the great endeavor that we started more than ten years ago.” “I may have put it too bluntly when I said that the Polesie area can feed the country while we can export the rest. Demand for food will only rise,” the Belarusian leader is convinced.
“Polesie is the most beautiful area of Belarus. I don’t want to offend others when I say that genuine Belarusians are born here. With their mentality, their character, sense of purpose, and some cunningness. They are genuine hard workers. We need to revive the Polesie area during the next five-year term. It is also important because we need to demonstrate how work should be done to our kids and young Belarusians. Whatever praise we may say about young Belarusians (they are good, kind, beautiful, better than us) but they are different. We need to leave them with the way they could follow at least initially. For 10-20 years. So that they could decide for themselves how to proceed later on. This is why now our generation needs to leave what our kids will need,” the head of state said.
He described land as the key resource for agrarians and also mentioned land amelioration. More than half of the farmlands in Brest Oblast have been acquired thanks to land amelioration. The percentage stands at 80% at OAO Parokhonskoye. A special program was worked out for the region back in the Soviet times. “There is no need to invent anything. It is necessary to repeat what Parokhonskoye has done. I already gave the first instruction yesterday evening for starters. I am not going to identify the agricultural enterprise that will repeat this success next year,” the Belarusian leader said. “Mikhail Ivanovich Rusy bears responsibility for realizing this program before the president. He was born in the Polesie area. Outside Zhitkovichi. An executive from OAO Parokhonskoye will verify how technologies are used. We will concentrate monetary resources on the main programs without spreading them all over the country and we will realize programs like the one for the Polesie area.”
The head of state assured that large-scale land amelioration efforts would continue: “Our common task is to preserve what we’ve conquered from nature. Once we stop, once we truly stop working, nature immediately starts taking everything back. A philosophical battle between man and nature is in progress. Man fights for survival and a decent life. But we should proceed carefully without disrupting the main principles and laws of the world. We need to respect nature. We know how to do it. Particularly in the Polesie area.”
He stressed that all of it must be done for the sake of children and grandchildren, who should also work the native land. “So that in 10, 20, 50 years they would come out onto the Dazhynki festival stage like we do today. So that they would be proud of our country and praise us,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.
