Lukashenko: Teacher's authority must be indisputable

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – The authority of the teacher must be indisputable. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement during the National Pedagogical Conference on 24 August, BelTA has learned.

The head of state described the pedagogue's status as a matter of burning interest. “All of us are interested in the indisputable authority of the teacher. Both in the eyes of their students, among parents, and in the society. Without it there is no point in talking about the accomplishment of the global tasks the education system faces,” he said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Starting 1 January 2022 we have to find ways to considerably stimulate the work of form masters and curators of student groups in vocational schools from the financial point of view. I instruct the government to submit the relevant proposals soon.”

He also gave instructions to think and report on how specialists of nurseries and kindergartens can be supported. “The work of those educators and their assistants is as complicated and very important,” he stressed.

“We will do everything we can afford taking into account capabilities of the country's economy,” Aleksandr Lukashenko assured.

Apart from that, he pointed out that the teacher's status means his or her authority, which cannot be sold or bought in exchange for any salary and money. “A lot, if not all, depends on the personality, character, competence, and professionalism of the pedagogue. I am sure you understand it. We should see such people on our own level, the state level. And we should do everything for them starting with government awards and ending with salaries, housing, and so on,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
