Lukashenko talks about parties responsible for nurturing Belarusian kids

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – As for the distribution of responsibility in childrearing, everyone should contribute to the moral and spiritual upbringing of Belarusian kids. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement during the National Pedagogical Conference on 24 August, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Let me put it like this: all of us starting with the president of the country and ending with a nursery nanny, including the society, the school, and parents, are responsible for the moral and spiritual upbringing of kids. There can be no other way of doing it.”

The head of state noted that if a person chooses a teaching career, he or she should give their heart to the children as the prominent Soviet pedagogue Vasily Sukhomlinsky put it.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “If you become a teacher, you have to give away your heart. A true teacher will never split responsibility for the kid between the school and the family. He or she will make parents part of the process, will make them allies for the entire education period. What happens today is no good. Some parents suddenly decided they can be simple bystanders in the process of their kid's education and nurture. Don't be offended but there are some teachers, who simply explain educational material and shift everything else onto the parents.”

A Parenting Universities project has been launched in Belarus. It is a well-known form of interaction with parents. “Who else can help them raise their kids but teachers with their professional knowledge of pedagogics, psychology, and didactics? This practice should be extended onto the entire system. Parents, who are accustomed to arguing with teachers, will have to go to topical meetings and start working with the school in tandem. The kid's education, his or her adaptation, and socialization in school are part of the parents' responsibility, too,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

A lot depends on the family since attitude to studying and to the teacher is formed in the family, Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out. The president believes kids will always feel comfortable in kindergarten and in school if parents demonstrate a positive attitude to pedagogues from the very start.

“But before demanding something of teachers parents should answer the question of what they have done for the school where their kids spend more time than at home first. In other words, what have they done for their kid,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted.

“As for our area of responsibility, the minister reported what measures to enforce discipline and order in schools had been taken. It is right and is directly related to the security of kids. I urge parents to understand the school's requirements properly,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
