KAZAN, 24 October (BelTA) – We support your position on the Middle East, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with UN Secretary General António Guterres on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia on 24 October, BelTA has learned.
During the meeting, the Belarusian president hailed the secretary general for “a wonderful trait". "I have seen many secretaries general in my political life. But this is the first time I have seen such determination," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
"You are the first secretary general who openly and honestly, as a person, stated his position on key issues on the international agenda. You should know that your position on the Middle East is consonant with Belarus’ position and is absolutely supported by us," the head of state said.

"Our colleagues in the Middle East asked for an urgent meeting. Yesterday, a drone hit a UN mission car and killed the driver. A drone crashed in closely proximity to the UN office in Lebanon breaking windows," he said.

The situation in northern Gaza is dire, and the UN had to suspend its vaccination program. Currently, there is only one hospital operating in Gaza, and António Guterres hopes that the UN will be able to access it and deliver the vaccine.

He also expressed concerns about the UN’s mission in Lebanon that comprises nearly 10,000 people from over 40 countries. "I feel responsible for the life of each of them. Certainly, anything can happen. The situation in Lebanon is terrible. We are going through really difficult times right now. This is why I sometimes have to be active in protecting certain things. I feel the people's suffering," António Guterres said.
