Lukashenko suggests motivating Belarusians to build housing in villages

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – We need to create favorable conditions for residential development in rural communities, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he heard a report on the development of the network of national highways and transport infrastructure to ensure an hour’s accessibility to the satellite cities on 21 October, BelTA has learned.

"We need to encourage Belarusians to buy land in unpromising villages or farmsteads. After all, the average plot size is almost half a hectare. There are many plots that have never been lived on, where people could build houses. Both well-to-do people and people of more modest income want to live in the countryside, so that their children can enjoy walking barefoot on grass every year. We need to encourage them to do so and create appropriate conditions," the head of state set the task.

The president added that these issues should be included in the new five-year housing construction state program.
