MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko suggested the Eurasia Plus format for the next edition as he spoke at the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security on 31 October, BelTA has learned.
The head of state called the current event an important step aimed at the formation of sustainable peace. He also addressed words of special gratitude to all participants of the forum: “I am an experienced politician (pardon my immodesty) and I know how people gather for conferences. If a large state called for a conference, I can tell you that a lot of people would go there. If a medium-sized state calls, it is unlikely to see many people there. You all came here.” The president emphasized that Belarusians know how to appreciate kindness and respond with kindness.
“Next year I would like to invite you to gather for our next meeting, if you agree, in the Eurasia Plus format, so that the voice of each country wishing to make its constructive contribution to the establishment of global security could be heard,” the president said.
According to him, such a step is intended to become the beginning of a new political process on confidence-, security- and cooperation-building measures, similar to the Helsinki process, but meeting the realities of today, which Belarus has repeatedly urged the international community to do.
