Lukashenko signs executive order on creating Belarusian COVID-19 vaccine

MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed an executive order on creating a Belarusian vaccine against the infection caused by the coronavirus on 1 April, the press service of the head of state told BelTA.

In line with the document in 2021-2023 the Healthcare Ministry and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will have to accomplish a series of measures to create the relevant vaccine. In particular, the document specifies organizations in charge of doing the work to create the vaccine, the main stages and funding sources of this work, the timeline for preclinical trials and clinical trials.

In line with the executive order research institutions of the Healthcare Ministry and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will be provided with the equipment and component parts they need to create the vaccine. The center for experimental and applied virology of the Biophysics and Cell Engineering Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will be reconstructed as part of the project, too.
