Lukashenko shocked by illegal waste dumps in Minsk District

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – I was shocked to see illegal waste dumps in Minsk District, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said at a government meeting to discuss waste management and use of secondary material resources on 20 May, BelTA has learned.

The head of state noted that the issues of containerized municipal waste collection have not been fully resolved yet. "Residents of dacha communities and small towns often simply do not know where to throw away unnecessary things. But as it turns out they do know... I found this out by accident. I shared my concerns with the prime minister who was the governor of Minsk Oblast. I traveled around Minsk District and I was shocked," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

"Minsk District is a waste dump of Minsk Hero City. This is havoc. A dump truck came by and dumped the waste right on the outskirts of a forest. It was all kinds of things! I stopped by and had a look: old refrigerators, plastic, glass, various kinds of household garbage. This happens near Minsk!" he emphasized.
