Lukashenko sets new bar for Brest Oblast

MIKASHEVICHI, 5 October (BelTA) – During a solemn ceremony held as part of the Dazhynki 2024 harvest festival in Mikashevichi on 5 October to honor agrarians Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko praised accomplishments of Brest Oblast farmers in various areas and set even more ambitious tasks for the region, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I am sure that you and the new head of the oblast [Piotr Parkhomchik] don’t need to borrow knowledge, experience, and ambitions. In the next few years the region has to steadily produce 2.5 million tonnes of cereals and leguminous crops per year. It is the first time in my life that I’ve sent an industrialist to your agrarian and industrial land, one can say. He is one of the best heads of our BelAZ company. He should inspire not only agriculture but also the manufacturing sector, which is slightly lagging behind in Brest Oblast. He has prepared the relevant program and we will consider it soon. Because there will be no agriculture without the manufacturing sector.”

“I have strong faith and strong hope for you. I am always glad to hear about your accomplishments. I am ready to continue walking with you towards new heights in economy and in social life,” the Belarusian leader stated.

This year Brest Oblast was the first region in the republic to begin and end the harvesting campaign. It harvested nearly 2 million tonnes of cereals and leguminous crops, securing yields of over 38 centners per hectare.

In his speech Chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Piotr Parkhomchik reported that the harvesting campaign in the region is about to enter the final stage for all crops.

“Brest Oblast has a special attitude to instructions of the president of our country. And we will work to execute your instruction to secure 2.5 million tonnes. You often say that time has chosen us. I can do one better: who else but us?” the head of the Brest Oblast administration said.

Piotr Parkhomchik thanked Aleksandr Lukashenko for warmth and care for agrarians. He presented a loaf made of new harvest grain as a gift to the head of state.

According to the chairman of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, Aleksandr Lukashenko became an honorary Polesie area resident in 2014. This is why another symbolic gift was presented to him: two horses of the Polesie breed. “It is a hardworking breed. It helped people survive through various hardships. Two horses will soon be at your disposal,” Piotr Parkhomchik said.

In addition to the horses Aleksandr Lukashenko was gifted a book about the horse breed.

“Thank you very much! You’ve just been appointed the oblast governor and you’ve already put me on a horse,” the head of state said as a joke. “He knows that I have a special attitude to animals. But I thought I’d get a cow as a gift. He gifted me a horse. A good gift, too. I have horses. All the horses I’ve been gifted. From abroad and the rest. I take good care of them. This is why these two horses (I know what kind of breed it is) will occupy a good place at my presidential farm.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko once again thanked everyone. Particularly for harvesting over 2 million tonnes of grain. “We need 2.5 million and we need Polesie in bloom,” the head of state concluded.

In conclusion of his participation in the harvest festival Aleksandr Lukashenko left an autograph in a tablet dedicated to the visit to Mikashevichi. This tablet will become part of a regional exhibition.
