Lukashenko sends German Unity Day greetings to people of Germany

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has extended greetings to people of the Federal Republic of Germany as the country celebrates German Unity Day, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“Belarusians know the true meaning of this concept very well. For almost two decades our people were divided by artificial borders, which did not contribute to normal relations, development of the country and did not give any prospects,” the message of greetings reads. “Then even more damage was caused by World War II, which claimed the life of every third inhabitant. Neither Belarusians nor Germans should forget these terrible facts.”

The head of state emphasized: “We often hear that it is impossible to make adjustments to the course of history. But we are not just witnesses of contemporary events, we have influence on them and can change the negative scenario of development.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, the modern generation of Belarusians and Germans has a lot in common and understands each other much better than a hundred years ago. “We have accumulated invaluable experience of contacts in a wide range of sectors. Minsk cherishes them no matter what. The doors of our house are always open for guests from Germany and other countries, for all people of good will who come to us with a pure heart and wish us well,” the Belarusian leader said. “I believe that very soon we will add harmony and mutual understanding to the value of unity, which has been so difficult for us to achieve. Welcome to Belarus!”
