Lukashenko sends anniversary greetings to Belarus' road police

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated the Belarusian road police on the 85th anniversary. The video message of the head of state was shown in Minsk downtown during the anniversary celebrations, BelTA has learned.

“Dear friends, you have turned 85 years today. It is difficult to say whether it is a long time or not taking into consideration that you are an eternity. I hope that the road police will be with us forever in one form or another. People working there are ready to come to help us any time,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko thanked the road police staff for their work, initiative and self-motivation. He also wished them a good mood. “If you are in a good mood, our streets will be in order,” he said.

Judging by the video, the congratulatory message was recorded in the agro-town of Alexandria, the native land of the president. Aleksandr Lukashenko was riding a Ural motorcycle with a sidecar and a beacon light through the streets of the agro-town.

It is unclear whether the choice of this particular vehicle was random or not, but it has a certain symbolism and shades of nostalgia. The traffic police started using the Ural motorcycles in the 1960s and these motorcycles were very popular for a number of years. For example, this motorcycle was featured in the legendary Soviet movie Beware of the Car: car thief Yuri Detochkin was pursued by an inspector who rode this vehicle.
